HRH relies on volunteers to operate our many programs. We welcome you to give just a few hours of your time, or become a regular volunteer with us. We also welcome groups of volunteers from schools, religious groups, youth organizations, and other associations. (Please note that while we regularly need volunteers in certain areas, others will vary.) Contact us to discuss you interests and our current needs.
Volunteer opportunities:
- Prepare and, if you would like, serve a simple evening meal to guests at the DCCH shelter. download the DCCH Volunteer brochure (.pdf)
- Join our Youth Advisory Board. We are looking for teens and young adults to provide feedback to HRH on youth needs and services. The YAB meets several times a year with HRH staff and Board members. This is a great opportunity for high school and college students to become involved in the community and have a real say in the programs that exist in the area to meet the needs of youth. download the YAB flyer (.pdf)
- Help serve meals to families staying at Hudson River Lodging. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner 365 days a year to up to 150 residents. Extra help is also always needed for holiday meals.
- Provide recreational activities for children by volunteering in the Activities Center at Hudson River Lodging. Our River Haven programs also welcome volunteers to develop workshops for youth, especially during the summer months.
- Share your skills and hobbies by providing classes on knitting, cooking, computers, art/music, budgeting, health and nutrition, fitness, career mentoring, ethnic heritage, or more.
- Help with planting and clean-ups at various sites.
- Help with small-scale painting projects.
- Help organize and sort donations.
- Provide tutoring services.
- Help organize and run holiday parties for families and individuals in our residential programs (including the winter holidays, Easter, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and others).
- Provide administrative assistance – help with filing, mailing, etc.
- Donate your professional services – doctor, dentist, hair stylists, and others.
Are you involved in a community group that can use more volunteers? We are looking for opportunities for youth in our River Haven programs to become more connected with the community and learn new skills. If you are interested in hosting youth volunteers, contact Corinne Lesko
