Housing Development

HRH began working in the field of housing development in 1991.  While working to provide emergency and transitional housing to homeless individuals and families, we realized the need to provide cost-appropriate permanent housing options for those looking to move out of the shelter system, in order to help break the cycle of homelessness.  In addition to providing apartments, we also wanted to provide the opportunity for households to achieve the dream of homeownership.  Our housing development work has proved an important part of neighborhood revitalization efforts taking place in the City of Poughkeepsie and throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley.  We have turned dozens of vacant lots and blighted properties into quality, cost-appropriate housing, and in the process have brought new life into depressed neighborhoods.

New Construction, Rehabilitation and Historic Preservation

HRH undertakes new construction and rehabilitation projects.  We have also developed an expertise in historic preservation and the redevelopment of historic properties.  Through our work we create multi-family apartment buildings, ranging from five units to nearly one hundred units.  We also build and rehabilitate homeowner housing for first-time homebuyers, including single family and two family homes, and have developed several commercial spaces.  In our 26 year history, we have developed over 500 apartments, 39 homes, and 9 commercial spaces.

Past Projects

Our projects are located throughout Dutchess County and the Mid-Hudson region.  Our primary focus is the City of Poughkeepsie, a historic small city on the banks of the Hudson River.

Community Development

HRH is currently spearheading efforts to revitalize Poughkeepsie’s downtown.  Our Middle Main Revitalization and City of Poughkeepsie Community Stabilization projects will help stabilize neighborhoods, reduce blight, and renew interest and investment in the area’s assets.
