HRH welcomes interns in a variety of departments. Below you will find a list of possible internship placements. If you are interested in interning with us, please contact your school’s career services department. If you aren’t currently in school, you may contact us directly to discuss a placement.
Direct Care/Case Management ~ Work alongside staff supervising residents and providing supportive services. Possible duties include assisting in client assessment and goal development, job coaching and mentoring, providing referrals to outside agencies, and organizing group client activities. Many of our programs are State certified, and interns who are to have direct involvement with clients must go through a full screening process and attend prior training, just as staff would.
Community Building & Neighborhood Revitalization ~ Help community development staff implement neighborhood revitalization activities in downtown Poughkeepsie. Conduct resident and business surveys, block surveys assessing neighborhood conditions, and asset mapping. Collect data on socioeconomic conditions and crime statistics. Participate in designing and hosting community meetings to increase resident involvement. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus for interns in this area.
Nonprofit Administration ~ Assist in a variety of departments within HRH helping undertake the tasks necessary to the administration of a nonprofit organization. Work with marketing staff on agency communications and fundraising; assist housing counselors maintain client records; assist the human resources department manage employment information.
Child Development ~ Help children dealing with homelessness receive extra support by organizing and leading activities for children in our programs, or provide after-school and summer tutoring. Share your skills and hobbies with youth through regular workshops.
Help Us Go Green! – Work with staff to assess areas where we can reduce our carbon footprint, and help develop a green awareness campaign to educate staff and the public.
