Hudson River Housing offers a full range of educational services designed to prepare you to purchase a home. To enroll in any of these programs, complete and submit the Enrollment Form.
A nine-hour education program designed to assist first-time homebuyers overcome barriers to, and become prepared for, homeownership. The classes meet one night per month for six months, and introduce you to local experts in the home buying process, including attorneys, realtors, mortgage lenders, and insurance specialists. After successfully completing the course, participants receive a Certificate of Completion. Fee ~ $100.
This program is a time-condensed version of The Home Club, and is only available to individuals and families that are currently in the process of obtaining a mortgage with a lender. Sessions are scheduled individually on an as-needed basis. Fee ~ $50.
For those interested in purchasing a home, this service provides you with a Housing Counselor who will help you prepare to purchase through personal one-on-one counseling sessions. Your Housing Counselor will maintain a relationship with you throughout the entire home buying process. No fee.
The City of Poughkeepsie and the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York and SONYMA offer grants for first-time homebuyers to use towards down payment and/or closing costs. A Housing Counselor will explain what grants are currently available and assist in determining if your household is eligible. No fee.
One-on-one credit counseling is offered for individuals and families in need of assistance in raising their credit score to pre-qualify for a mortgage. Fee ~ $25
This four-hour course is offered in a classroom setting over four sessions. It is designed to teach individuals and families how to use credit responsibly in order to raise their credit score. Through budgeting and financial management, customers work towards their goals of reducing debt and/or saving for a down payment on a home. No fee.
This one-hour course is designed to assist home buyers decide if they want to pursue owning a multi-family home. The course is a basic overview of the rewards, risks, and responsibilities of being a landlord. No fee
This service is offered to anyone who is already in the process of buying a multi-family home. The one-on-one session details the variables involved in becoming a landlord. Fee ~ $125
One-on-one counseling is offered to homeowners over the age of 62 who are interested in obtaining and/or learning more about a home equity conversion mortgage.
